In addition, you can look for models that are perfect for leisure time or make excellent companions at university.
How this variety of models came to be and which 12 models you should know, we have explained in more detail below. You can find many of the leather backpacks and types in the highest quality in our online shop. For production, we use exclusively the best genuine leather. You can learn more about the types of leather used on our blog. So, feel free to take a look around at your leisure.
The origin of the many backpack types
The variety of different backpack types and styles initially arose from rather practical needs. While small models are practical for everyday life, multi-day tours must be tackled with larger backpack types. Therefore, models for commuters, cycling, and trail running have developed slowly but surely. Around the same time, tactical backpacks were added, which are used by the military, for example. Besides design and size, the carrying system and organization also play important roles in a backpack.
The heavier the load, the more important padded shoulder straps and hip belts become. The fit must be right, and the weight distribution on the inside should be as even as possible. So that you find exactly the right type for your purposes, we have explained the 12 most important versions for you in the next section.

Overview of the 12 most important backpack types
Every backpack type that will follow exists as both a women's model and a men's model. You can find many of them as men's leather backpacks or women's leather backpacks in our range. We use top-quality genuine leather from a tannery with a Gold Rating from the Leather Working Group. You can therefore be sure that our products comply with environmental aspects and social responsibility requirements, among other things.
Note: For trekking backpacks or cycling backpacks, we recommend that you look at specialized manufacturers. Especially for hiking and outdoor activities, you should rely on models that have been designed specifically for this use.
Daypack
The daypack is the classic backpack as you surely know it and have likely owned at least once. Due to its rather compact and lightweight shape, it is super suitable for effortlessly supporting you in everyday life. Water bottles, snacks, documents, and often some clothes can be stowed in daypacks. Usually, you can count on 10 to a maximum of 20 liters of volume. The designs vary depending on the style.
Hiking backpack
The backpack size for a hiking backpack can be slightly larger than for daily models. The backpack shapes are made more for the outdoor and hiking sector, which is why they are almost always more ergonomic. Weight distribution is managed via wider straps. So, if you carry the backpack often or for long periods, hiking backpacks are just the right thing.
It is important that the settings match your back length and that the choice of the right material is taken into account. Since they are used outside in nature, they are made of water-repellent materials, for example, canvas fabric.
Tip: For summer, hiking backpacks with a mesh panel on the back are suitable. They are breathable and allow you to stay as cool as possible despite the backpack. In summer temperatures, you will quickly appreciate the breathability.
Trekking backpack
Trekking options offer even more volume than daypacks and hiking backpacks. They are designed for long and multi-day tours. Therefore, a sturdy hip belt is always attached to them, and good load distribution is provided. They also come in different sizes, with the average ranging from 40 to 70 liters of volume.
Travel backpack
The intended use of the travel backpack is, of course, self-explanatory. You use it when you go on a longer trip or are planning a vacation. It makes you flexible, offers you plenty of storage space, and can be equipped with multiple compartments. You can easily stow everything for several days of vacation in it and usually use 70 liters of volume or more. Travel backpacks are often available for children as well; in this case, they are of course adapted to smaller shoulders and a shorter back.
Laptop backpack
A laptop backpack is designed less for adventure and more for work. It features a separate compartment, which is usually padded and can hold your tablet or laptop. For business travelers, a smaller model often makes sense to take as a second bag on the way to work or on a business trip. In principle, however, you can also use classic leather laptop bags. Feel free to take a look around our shop for these. We offer top models like Frederik in backpack form or Will and Yale as fashionable retro bags. They are all designed so that you benefit from them every day.
Business backpack
A very classic feature of the business backpack is its smart appearance combined with practical compartments. You can store work materials, documents, and technology in it. Its functionality is one of the most important aspects and should definitely contribute to the decision to buy such a model. The versions often contain additional compartments designed for transporting laptops or similar items. The capacity is usually not excessively high but is definitely sufficient for daily needs.
Commuter backpack
Among the different backpack types is the commuter backpack. It focuses on everyday practicality, allows for easy organization, and is often equipped with reflectors. The reflectors are useful because many commuters have to leave early in the morning and return late at night. It is also common as a city backpack and offers the necessary space for your most important items like keys, work documents, and valuables.
Cycling backpack
A cycling backpack is always lightweight and sturdy in construction. Back ventilation, a secure fit, and useful additional functions are the absolute standard for this backpack type. Therefore, you will mostly find rain covers or space for a rain jacket on them, and you have the option to attach hydration systems. In these models, you can take the essentials with you on the go and rely on the durability of the material.
Trail running backpack and running vests
When trail running, the backpack must be lightweight when empty and must not bounce around. That is why they are perfectly adapted to the body, made of lightweight material, and offer primarily space for water, small snacks, and some equipment. Since all activities in trail running involve a lot of movement, the models fit closely. Their features are perfectly adapted to your physique and movement flow.
Children's backpack
For children, there are the classic children's backpacks. They are robust, simple, and almost always have only one large main compartment and one or two secondary compartments. They are built for maximum space and average comfort, are used at school, and are suitable for smaller day trips. Entire day tours, however, are not a good idea due to the rather low carrying comfort.
Courier backpack
If you appreciate an urban look and functionality, you should take a look at a courier backpack. They are designed for fast handling and super practical transport. You can pack them in a few minutes and generally don't have to pay attention to much. As timeless and cool options, they are often on trend and can be fashionably supplemented with matching leather accessories.
Tactical backpack
A completely different type of backpack is the tactical backpack. It is used in the military and for other missions. The models are therefore almost always made of Cordura fabric or polyester weave and are optimized for absolute resilience. They have many compartments on the outside and inside, can be fully loaded, and are still designed relatively close to the body. Therefore, they are also used and valued in the active outdoor scene.

The right backpack for the occasion
Now that you know the most important backpack types, you should know for which occasion they are suitable. For the workday, we recommend daypacks, laptop backpacks, business backpacks, and commuter backpacks. You can, for example, use our model Remy, which was made from cowhide leather and washed after assembly. Alternatively, the Andrea or Joris models are suitable. The latter option, in particular, has a great retro charm. They are mostly made from UK canvas fabric.
For hiking, hiking backpacks or trekking backpacks are better suited, as they are functionally designed. You should manage all longer trips with a travel bag or a travel backpack. For very specific things like cycling, cycling backpacks with a hydration system are of course suitable. For these versions, it is best to look at specialized outdoor and cycling shops.
